Pastor Finney

Earl D. Finney has over 30 years of leadership experience beginning his career in the United States Army in 1971.  After a honorable discharge from the Armed Service, he attended Southern Ohio College and resumed his career in the United States Army Reserve.

His passion and love for God led him to James Temple Church of God in Christ in 1975.  Under the mentorship of the late Bishop William James, he matured from a Trustee, Deacon, and Board Member to Minister and Senior Elder.

In 2002, his passion for souls called him to "higher ground" with the birth of a new ministry under his leadership.  The vision for Higher Ground Ministries  House of Favor Church of God in Christ is to function not only as a house of prayer and worship, but is a training ground to equip souls for spiritual warfare and service; thereby empowering them to impact lives, home, and communities.

The late Bishop William James united Pastor Finney in marriage to his high school sweet heart, Dorothy Harris, on October 7, 1972.  Together they have dedicated their lives to expounding the truth of God's word and serving God's people.  Their two children, Hope and David, are also very active in the ministry.

Pastor Finney is Assistant Superintendent, Greater Cincinnati District of the Ohio North First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ.  He was also named 2008 Pastor of the Year by the Cincinnati Gospel Awards. Pastor Finney founded an annual Neighborhood Love Day for the Bond Hill community of Cincinnati whereby the church promotes health and wellness as well as spiritual motivation and empowerment for the community.  He welcomes the opportunity to serve the body of Christ as God continues to grant him divine favor because of his steadfast faith and commitment in the work of the Lord.
